  • Bookstore Romeo : A novel – Ever been so burned in love that when the next good man comes along you find yourself petrified, and like a jumper standing on the edge of a smoldering building are afraid to leap into the arms of the white knight below? Sounds a bit far fetched, but anyone that has loved and lost has been there.  Fear and heartbreak can cause many of us to freeze up, and sometimes even drive us to do things that we never could have imagined. Molly MacIntosh is just one of these smoldering women. A script reader at a mid size North American production company, Molly  is well respected and always ahead of the pack with a keen ear for new talent. When her company acquires a small production house in Sydney, Australia she is offered the position of development manager in charge of acquisitions. Anxious to escape a failed affair with Colin Manning, her boss, she accepts the challenge enthusiastically.  With high hopes that a new location will repair her fragmented life, Molly leaves her broken heart behind to lead the charge abroad. Molly finds her new position at Balmain Productions challenging. The film company produces erotica and adult entertainment, both of which she has little experience with. Although she is viewed as competent and likeable, there is lingering resentment due to the take over, making it difficult to make new friends. Anxious to prove herself and gain the respect of her peers, Molly delves into the newfound world of erotica, voraciously reading submissions by aspiring new screenwriters, in hopes of finding the next big thing next to Deep Throat. Molly finds her days fulfilling, but her nights and weekends long and lonely. She decides to explore Sydney and re-kindle her enthusiasm and lust for adventure.  Molly’s love of literature and the smell of old leather lure her into a quaint second hand bookstore. Here she meets Neil Virtue, the bookstore owner, and an aspiring novelist. Neil introduces her to his world of erotica, reading her the stories from his erotic novel. Molly begins to help Neil polish his novel, writing and editing together they hope to adapt it for the screen and make it into the next big BP blockbuster. Molly finds him irresistible, but sensing that this bookstore Romeo could really break her heart, she remains distant and professional. In the back of her mind is always the idea that she could return back home. Colin her ex-lover, continues to try to wheedle himself back into her life. During moments of extreme loneliness and weakness, Molly considers taking him back, although she knows that things will never change for the better with Colin. His promises are empty. In order to distract herself from running back into his arms, she immerses herself deeply into her work to mould the next big thing. To Molly this means working very closely with Neil. Neil and Molly begin to spend allot of time with one another. He shows her the beauty of Sydney, the wonderful world of erotica, and ultimately through constant romancing and honesty, he teaches her how to trust again. Their mutual attraction and desires enables them to form a strong bond of friendship, and what Molly begins to recognize as love. Opening herself to the idea of love terrifies Molly. Although she begins to adore living in her new world, when the opportunity comes to move back home, she is torn between leaving the man she thinks she may be in love with, and fleeing to the man and the life she left behind.
